The MVR concentration system for ammonium chloride wastewater has been put into operation.

China’s first MVR concentration system for ammonium chloride wastewater, which employs a domestically produced centrifugal steam compressor, was recently put into successful operation at Wolan Chemical Co., Ltd. in Nantong, Jiangsu Province. Ammonium chloride wastewater is one of the more common types of effluent generated in industries such as chemical manufacturing and agrochemical production. Because ammonium chloride solutions have a very high boiling point—117°C at atmospheric pressure—the MVR concentration process places stringent demands on the compression ratio achievable by the steam compressor. If imported centrifugal compressors were used, the limited saturation‑steam temperature rise per unit—only about 8°C—would necessitate the installation of at least three compressors to meet MVR system requirements, significantly increasing the equipment investment costs for users.

Ammonium chloride wastewater is one of the more common types of effluent in industries such as chemical manufacturing and pesticide production. Because ammonium chloride solutions have a very high boiling point—117°C at atmospheric pressure—the MVR concentration system places stringent demands on the compression ratio achievable by its steam compressor. If imported centrifugal blowers are used, the relatively high temperature rise per unit—only 8°C for saturated steam—means that at least three units would be required to meet the MVR system’s specifications, significantly increasing the user’s capital investment in equipment.

This MVR system is equipped with a centrifugal steam compressor manufactured by Turbovap, delivering a single‑stage saturated steam temperature rise of 20°C per unit. The successful application of this MVR system to ammonium chloride wastewater has set a benchmark for the concentration of high-boiling-point wastewaters in China.
