The MVR evaporator market has broad prospects.
China is a country facing severe shortages of energy resources. Per capita remaining recoverable reserves of oil and natural gas amount to only 7.7% and 7.1% of the global average, respectively, while even coal—relatively abundant in China—stands at just 58.6% of the world average. Since the beginning of the new century, energy conservation and environmental protection have been vigorously promoted; the enactment of the Energy Conservation Law has made resource efficiency a fundamental national policy, and efforts to conserve energy, protect the environment, and reduce emissions have become major national undertakings involving the entire society.
China is the “world’s factory,” yet it is also a major energy consumer. China’s energy intensity—energy consumption per unit of GDP—is 2.4 times that of developed countries. With mounting environmental challenges and rising energy costs, China’s rapid economic growth has created a vast market for the promotion and application of MVR evaporators. The conventional evaporation equipment currently in operation across the country urgently requires upgrading; if all such systems were replaced by advanced, energy‑efficient MVR evaporators, the nation could save hundreds of millions of tons of standard coal annually and reduce carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide emissions by nearly one billion tons each year. The market prospects for MVR evaporators are exceptionally promising. According to statistics and forecasts from domestic experts specializing in the evaporator market, total annual demand averaged approximately RMB 10 billion between 2004 and 2009. At present, the production value ratio between traditional multi‑effect evaporators and MVR evaporators stands at 100:5. Experts project that, over the next five years, MVR evaporators will grow at an annual rate of around 20%, gradually replacing conventional evaporators.
Since 2007, MVR evaporators have entered the Chinese market from North America and Europe, with primary applications in deep‑processing of food products, the dairy industry, industrial wastewater treatment, and the beverage sector. In China, only a handful of companies have developed domestically produced MVR evaporators and begun marketing them, yet their market share remains very small, with imports still dominating. Consequently, the Chinese evaporator market continues to be structured around conventional multi‑effect evaporators as the mainstay, supplemented by a smaller share of MVR evaporators. This situation stems from two key factors: first, MVR evaporators are relatively new, and users lack a thorough understanding of their applications; second, imported MVR evaporators are prohibitively expensive. Nevertheless, the prevailing trend in both domestic and international markets is for MVR evaporators to gradually replace traditional multi‑effect evaporators, and given time, they are expected to increasingly supplant these conventional systems.
